Part 4 - Thinking Modular
Hopefully a pattern is starting to emerge as you read this. It's about
changing the whole way you approach site design. Instead of planning your
sites as a series of static pages, you should be thinking of them in a
modular sense: what are the graphic units they can be reduced to? Once you
build a site this way, you'll be amazed how easy it is to make changes
across sections or the entire site.
You also want to be thinking about incorporating the dynamic, interactive
potential of CGI into your HTML concept: how can you include automated
processes with your static pages to further your site goals and hold your
audience? The answers to this question are limitless - all you need is some
creativity and a good PERL coder.
Once you start to think along these lines as you develop, you will wind up
with a product that is more adaptable and that harnesses the real potential
of the Web's interactive environment.
