Gecko is designed to locate information about the newest page in a web directory, allowing you to build index pages that plug the newest content automatically. You can, for example, use Gecko to provide summaries of new press releases or showcase new products or content. Whenever you create a new press release or add a new product to your site, that information will be automatically included on your index page.

Gecko Syntax

DynaDex Gecko is called as a Server Side Includes "exec command", using the syntax:

<!--#exec cmd="/dirpath/gecko.cgi [mode]/URLpath"--> (UNIX)

Note for NT users: the same SSI commands may be used with one exception: you must specify the full pathname for your Perl interpreter to precede the dynadex script file location. For example:

<!--#exec cmd="/perl/bin/perl.exe/dirpath/gecko.pl [mode]/URLpath"--> (NT)

Where "dirpath" is the physical directories to the location of Gecko, for example:

/www/cgi-bin/dynadex/

"URLdir" is the location of the directory to look in for the newest document, for example:

/pressreleases

and "[mode]" is one of the following four commands:

name - return only the title of the document (hyperlinked to the page) for the newest page.

desc - return the title of the document (hyperlinked to the page) and the META-description for the newest page.

date - return the date (hyperlinked to the page) that the newest page was last modified.

key - return the primary META-keyword (hyperlinked to the page) of the newest page.
