How it Works
LinkTrakker JavaScript calls are placed on just those pages of your website that you want tracked (such as your site's homepage, or important sub-pages). When LinkTrakker is triggered by a visitor loading that page, the software looks at what page the visitor was on before your page. These results are tabulated in a database. You can then use the LinkTrakker report panel to analyze and examine how much traffic is being referred to your website from each link on the Web.

LinkTrakker doesn't make any visible changes to the pages it tracks. The process happens in the background, out of view of your Web visitors. In fact, LinkTrakker can even be housed on a separate machine from your main webserver (or track sites on multiple different servers).

Real Time Verification
LinkTrakker includes a built-in webspider that is used to analyze linking pages on other websites. When LinkTrakker encounters a new incoming link to a tracked page, the spider goes to that website and looks for a link to your page. These new links are then classified in your report database. Since this process only happens the first time LinkTrakker sees a link, it uses very little system resources from your webserver.

Search Engine Keyword Tracking
When users come through a link on a page of search engine results, the phrase they searched on (or the category they were looking under) is usually contained in the URL of that page. By comparing the traffic coming from different phrases at each search engine, you can learn what keywords visitors are finding you under.

LinkTrakker Banner Bar Performance Reporting
By keeping track of how many people are coming through a link, LinkTrakker can help you determine the effectiveness of your banner bar campaigns. You'll be able to see exactly how many people "click thru" to your site from every page of each Website you advertise on.

Multi-page Tracking
There is no limit to how many pages LinkTrakker can keep tabs on. While we recommend starting off with index pages and spreading from there, you can nonetheless track the incoming traffic into any and all HTML pages on your site. LinkTrakker can even be called by other CGI programs as a subroutine, allowing you to integrate hyperlink tracking with your other interactive website features.

Multi-domain & Multi-server compatible
You can define a limitless number of domains and URLs for each page in your site, so LinkTrakker can recognize links to your website even if you are using multiple domain names. One copy of LinkTrakker can provide tracking for numerous websites (even with different domain names) on any numbers of separate webserver.

User Navigation Reporting
You can tell how users are navigating within your site by checking the LinkTrakker report for "internal links". Find out which pages inside your site lead visitors to your critical features (and use what you learn to funnel traffic in your website more effectively).

Cookie User Tracking
You can also choose to have LinkTrakker cookie the URL a visitor came to your site from, so that this information could be read later (when that user purchases from your online catalog, etc.) This allows you to judge not just which links bring you the most traffic, but which ones bring you the most customers.

LinkTrakker Cross-Platform Compatible
LinkTrakker is written in the popular Perl programming language and runs on both Windows NT and UNIX webservers. Check the system requirements to see if it will run on your specific system.

Self-Installing
LinkTrakker comes with a simple installation utility that will take you through the required steps for getting it up and running on your system.
